The Assistant Resident Director (RD) serves under the supervision of the Area IV Coordinator and works in close collaboration
with them during staff training and the AGS program. This role functions as a key
member of the residential leadership team, supporting the Area IV Coordinator in fostering
a safe, inclusive and engaging residential community for Arkansas Governor's School
participants.
Brief Job Description:
- Assist with training and supervision of resident assistant staff.

- Assist with needs assessment and training.
- Assist with implementation of pre-services training, as well as the planning and implementation
of the in-service training.
- Assist with individual and/or group supervision and evaluation.
- Assist in planning/facilitation of staff meetings
- Assist with student problem solving and referral.
- Be available, approachable, and accessible to students.
- Advise and consult with residents regarding social, educational, and academic concerns;
initiates appropriate referrals. (Informal and formal)
- Confront and discuss behavioral problems with residents and identify appropriate behavioral
changes.
- Conduct judicial hearings and disciplinary interventions as needed.
- Assist with or handle crisis intervention as necessary.
- Explain residence hall rules, procedures, and behavioral expectations to residents.
- Assist with basic management of residence hall or complex.
- Maintain on-going contact with housekeeping and maintenance staff in building/complex/area.
- Communicate information to and between AGS students, Resident Assistants, Residence
Directors, Department of Residence Life, and AGS staff.
- Assume scheduled on-call responsibilities.
- Complete requested forms, reports, and correspondence.
- Understand and communicate relevant food service, maintenance, and housekeeping concerns,
procedures, policies, and practices.
- Understand and communicate AGS and Residence Life policies and procedures.
- Maintain direct contact with hall director/supervisor.
- Other duties assigned
- Performs other ancillary duties as assigned by the AGS Directors.
- Attend required AGS meetings including the planning week prior to the official start
of the program.
- Must be willing to live in residence hall with students.
- Requires CPR and First Aid certifications (provided during orientation).
- Prior AGS experience is preferred.
- Stipend, food and private housing will be provided as part of your employment package.
