Answers to your AGS questions
Eligibility and Application Process
Arkansas Governor’s School (AGS) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented students who are rising high school seniors and residents of Arkansas. Interested students should contact their school counselor or gifted and talented coordinator to learn about the nomination and application process.
Students must be officially nominated by their high school before applying. Home-schooled students may apply with a parent nomination. Once nominated, students receive an invitation to apply. Applications from nominated students are reviewed by a State Selection Committee appointed by the Arkansas Department of Education, which selects 400 students to attend each summer.
Students have one opportunity—during their junior year—to be nominated, apply, and, if selected, attend AGS the summer before their senior year. Schools may only nominate students who will return for their senior year; students graduating before AGS are not eligible.
Program Costs
There is no charge for tuition, room, board, meals, or classroom materials. Participants are only responsible for transporation to and from AGS and for any personal expenses such as snacks, amazon or grocery orders, etc. Students CAN attend AGS 100% free if they so choose. There is no charge for use of any of the recreational facilities, libraries, or attendance at special events.
AGS Dress Code
We ask all students to dress appropriately and use good judgment during the summer program. Clothing should be comfortable, modest, and suitable for an academic and community living environment. Examples of inappropriate clothing include, but are not limited to, short-shorts, boxer shorts, pajama pants, bare midriffs, halter tops, spaghetti straps, strapless tops, or shirts with offensive or inappropriate text or graphics. Shoes must be worn at all times outside residence halls for safety reasons. Students may be asked to change if their clothing or footwear is deemed unsuitable by a Resident Assistant, Resident Director, or other staff member.
For recreational activities, bring clothing and shoes that can get dirty or wet. Gym attire should be appropriate for a workout environment, and students who plan to use the gym are encouraged to pack suitable workout clothes and athletic shoes. Students also have the opportunity to swim, so modest swimwear may be brought.
Campus Life and Activities
Students enjoy access to the Student Union, campus library, computer lab, gym, and a variety of recreational facilities. The AGS Camp Office offers an assortment of board games and activities, and students can also enjoy pickleball, volleyball, basketball, and tennis upon request. Swimming opportunities are available during select recreation times.
Afternoons and evenings are filled with opportunities to connect and explore through organized games, activities, performances, movies, informative and inspirational lectures, and discussion groups.

Students must return to their residence halls by 10:00 p.m.
Housing and Residence Life

Housing arrangements are intentionally designed to help AGS students meet new people and experience college residential life in a supportive community. Resident Assistants and Resident Directors live in the residence halls and are available to provide guidance, support, and supervision throughout the program.
