Emergency Management Higher Education Colloquium

June 3–4, 2026 | Virtual Event

The Emergency Management Higher Education Colloquium is a virtual gathering for faculty, staff, administrators, and practitioners engaged in emergency management and homeland security higher education. The colloquium focuses on curriculum, teaching practice, research, and program leadership that support the preparation of future emergency management professionals.

Strong Foundations, Bold Adaptations

This year’s theme, “Strong Foundations, Bold Adaptations,” highlights the importance of building on established strengths in emergency management and homeland security education while responding to change, uncertainty, and emerging demands in the profession. The colloquium emphasizes how academic programs can update curriculum, refine instructional practice, and incorporate practitioner-informed lessons to ensure students are prepared for an increasingly complex professional environment.

The two-day, webinar-based colloquium is organized around distinct daily themes to support focused discussion and engagement.

Day 1: Foundations and Future Directions
Day 1 centers on the core elements of emergency management education and how recent experience and emerging considerations are informing updates to curriculum, instruction, and program practice. Sessions explore how strong academic foundations support stability, responsiveness, and continued forward momentum.

Day 2: Adaptation and Innovation
Day 2 examines how emergency management education is adapting through innovation, new tools, and evolving approaches. Sessions focus on instructional technology, artificial intelligence, and programmatic responses to shifting professional expectations, with an emphasis on preparing students for future professional practice.
